Akita Neru is a derivative character that originated from a Japanese Hatsune Miku fan community around 2007. The name 'Akita Neru' comes from the phrase 'Akita (bored) Neru (to sleep)', which was used by anti-fans in spam posts intended to provoke Miku fans.

Users began to moe-fy this spam post into the image of a young, thoughtless high school girl, marking the origin of the character Akita Neru.

Upon closer inspection, Neru is holding a mobile phone, a setting derived from the concept of being busy with anti-fan activities.

Akita Neru, who resembles Hatsune Miku yet doesn't quite: Instead of teal, she has yellow accents, and instead of twin pigtails, she has side-tied hair, creating a uniquely charming appeal. She appears like a mischievous version of Miku. 💛🩶
