This is a 1977-78 10 Rial coin from Iran featuring a rare Die Clash Error.

A Die Clash Error occurs when the dies intended for striking the obverse and reverse of a coin collide without a planchet (blank metal disc) in between. Normally, the distance between the dies is precisely calibrated so that they only strike the planchet inserted between them. However, errors in calibration can lead to the dies impacting each other directly.

When this collision happens, the design of one die can leave an impression on the opposing die. If a planchet is subsequently inserted and struck under these conditions, the resulting coin will bear not only its intended obverse and reverse designs but also partial impressions from the opposite die due to the clash.

This specific coin showcases this fascinating minting anomaly.
