Description
A pair of blue and white porcelain plates from the Qing Dynasty, featuring a lotus and scroll pattern.

These plates were crafted during the Qing Dynasty. The white porcelain body is adorned with blue and white pigments, depicting lotus flowers and scrolling vines. The central circular panel showcases a blooming lotus as the main motif, surrounded by boldly and fluidly extending stems and leaves that richly decorate the entire surface of the plates. The variations in the blue-and-white tones, along with the relatively free brushwork, exhibit the lively decorative style characteristic of folk-produced blue-and-white porcelain.

The lotus is a representative auspicious motif that has been used for a long time in traditional Chinese art. Symbolizing purity, nobility, and good fortune due to its growth in mud while blooming cleanly, the lotus and scroll pattern, combined with continuous scrolling vines, was widely used to signify the continuation of vitality, prosperity, and the wish for unending descendants and blessings.

The base interior features a double circle in underglaze blue, with a stylized mark inscribed in the center. This is a decorative mark, distinct from the common reign marks composed of characters. Identical marks on both plates indicate they were produced as a set.

Both plates are a matching pair, corresponding in size, form, and pattern composition. In the Japanese antique market, blue-and-white porcelain imported from China to Japan is sometimes classified under terms like 'Shinto' (ๆ–ฐๆธก), depending on the period and nature of its transfer. Such terminology has been used as a concept to distinguish Chinese ceramics within Japanese tea ceremony and antique pottery collection culture.

One plate clearly shows repair marks on the front and back, where several previously broken parts were reassembled and the crack lines were finished with gold material. Cracks and signs of use are also visible on the other plate. These repairs and marks indicate the vessel's long history of use and preservation, and its current condition is an element to be considered in the appreciation of antique ceramics.

**Important Considerations:**
* Cancellation, exchange, or return is not possible after payment.
* The seller believes this artwork to be authentic and sells it as such.
