This coin was minted during the reign of Emperor Chongzhen (崇禎帝), the last emperor of the Ming Dynasty. Facing severe financial difficulties due to internal rebellions led by Li Zicheng and external pressure from the Qing Dynasty, the Ming government issued a large quantity of Zhe-er Qian (折二錢), a high-value coin equivalent to two ordinary 'Soping Qian' (小平錢), to fund urgent military expenses.

This particular piece is distinguished by the clear inscription of the character '二' (two) on the reverse, directly indicating the monetary unit and face value of the time, making it a significant historical artifact.
