[BUNJANG] Joseon Dynasty Scholar's Iron Inkstone / 원기정영명철연

This is a rare, antique iron inkstone from the Joseon Dynasty, featuring the inscription '원기정영' (元氣精英 - indicating innate excellence) deeply carved into its surface.

Estimated to have been used by scholars during that era, this inkstone is a unique and historically significant artifact. The forehead of the inkstone (연액) is adorned with a three-dimensional cloud pattern, symbolizing auspiciousness and nobility. Below this, the ink pool (연지) creates an artistic ambiance, reminiscent of clouds settling over a pond when ink is added.

This piece reflects the mindset of Joseon scholars who viewed the 'Four Treasures of the Study' (문방사우) not merely as utilitarian items, but as tools for academic pursuit and spiritual cultivation, as well as works of art.

연액(硯額, 이마 부분)에는 구름문양이 입체적으로 새겨져 있는데,
이는 길상과 고결함을 상징하며, 그 아래 연지(硯池)에 (먹)물이 고이면
연못 위에 구름이 내려앉은 듯한 분위기가 연출되는 풍류를 자아냅니다.
