### About the Record:

This is a vinyl record featuring the renowned conductor Gennady Rozhdestvensky, born in Moscow. He began his conducting career while studying piano and conducting under prominent figures, leading ensembles like the Leningrad Philharmonic by 1951. Following the successful premiere of Prokofiev's ballet "Cinderella" in 1955, he was appointed as a conductor at the Bolshoi Theatre, where he served until 1960. In 1961, he became the music director and chief conductor of the Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra, a position he held until 1973, while also actively performing as a guest conductor internationally.

He concurrently served as the chief conductor of the Bolshoi Theatre again starting in 1965. In 1974, he moved abroad to become the chief conductor of the Stockholm Philharmonic and was appointed resident conductor of the Cleveland Orchestra, performing in Europe and America. Since the autumn of 1978, he has been the chief conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra in London.

Rozhdestvensky is recognized as one of the most gifted conductors of our time, known for his profound insight, delicate sense of color, and flexible, rich musicality across a broad repertoire encompassing ballet, opera, and concerts, as reflected in his distinguished career. His talents are exceptionally showcased in Russian and Soviet music. He is also known as the sole Sibelius conductor in the Soviet Union, a factor that contributed to his appointments in Stockholm and London.

Rozhdestvensky was widely known in Korea and passed away in 2018.

- 겐나디 로제스트벤스키/Gennady, Rozhdestvensky

모스크바에서 태어났다. 모스크바 음악원에서 피아노를 이그노프에게, 지휘를 명지휘자인 아버지 이노소프에게 사사했는데, 이미 재학중인 1951년 경부터 지휘 활동을 시작하여 레닌그라드 필하모니 등을 지휘하고 있었다. 그리하여 55년의 졸업시험에서 지휘한 프로코피에프의 발레 《신데렐라》의 성공으로 당장 볼쇼이 극장의 지휘자로 발탁되어 발레 전임으로서 60년까지 활약했다. 61년에는 모스크바 방송교향악단의 음악감독 겸 수석 지휘자로 취임하여 73년까지 재임하는 한편 국내외에서 객연 활동도 적극적으로 했다.

65년부터는 재차 볼쇼이 극장의 수석 지휘자도 겸임했다. 그러나 74년부터는 모국을 떠나 스톡홀름 필하모니의 수석 지휘자로 전임하였고, 클리블랜드 관현악단의 상임 지휘자로 임명되어 구미에서 활동하였고, 78년 가을부터는 런던의 BBC 교향악단의 수석 지휘자로서 활약하고 있다. 로제스트벤스키는 발레, 오페라, 콘서트 등 그 경력을 반영한 폭넓은 레퍼터리에 깊은 통찰력과 예민한 색채 감각, 유연하고 풍부한 음악성을 지닌 비길데 없이 선명한 연주를 전개하는 현대에서 가장 재기에 넘치는 지휘자 중의 한 사람이다. 그러한 진가가 러시아 ― 소비에트 음악에서 최상으로 발휘되는 것은 말할 것도 없다. 소련 유일의 시벨리우스 지휘자로서도 알려져 있는데, 스톡홀름이나 런던에서의 지위를 얻게 된 것도 이에 연유한다고 할 수 있다.
