This is a 5-person tea cup set from the renowned 5th Kiyomizu Rokubei, a distinguished lineage of Japanese ceramic artists.

It is increasingly common to encounter Rokubei pieces without their original boxes, and due to their high value, many fakes are in circulation. Purchasing an item with its verified original box is highly recommended.

Kiyomizu Rokubei (清水六兵衛) is a name passed down through generations by the heads of the esteemed Kiyomizu family in Kyoto, a representative traditional pottery lineage of Japan. Since its founding in 1771, the family has led the advancement of Kyo-yaki, leaving behind exceptional works of art including tea utensils, white porcelain, and blue-and-white porcelain.

This particular piece is characterized by a unique hexagonal dot pattern (六角 도결) that is noticeable. The original box bears the hexagonal dot seal, and this pattern is also visible on the bottom of each of the five cups. The cloth used to wrap the ceramics also features this hexagonal seal.

While this pattern can be found in the works of the 2nd Rokubei, Japanese experts have confirmed that this specific seal belongs to the 5th Rokubei.

The cups are beautifully crafted with an intentionally distorted shape, making them ideal for enjoying precious teas or liquors.
